Fussin & Cussin

A 2 track funk single (4m 56s) — released January 19th 2009 on Tramp Records

Tramp celebrates its 5-year anniversary with "Fussin' and Cussin", the 20th release in its re-issue series. In 2003, DJ/collector and vinyl aficionado Tobias Kirmayer set up Tramp Records. His aim was to re-release rare funk 45 rpm singles from the golden age of funk, all officially licensed from either the producers or musicians. Within the past five years, Tramp has re-issued these rare nuggets of soul, funk, and rhythm & blues, painstakingly adhering to the quality look, feel, and sound of the original. Furthermore, Tramp's five-year endeavor has shown unprecedented respect to the art form by positioning itself as the finest global resource for contemporary releases from local bands like The Hi-Fly Orchestra, The Boogoos, Castor Pollux and international acts such as Lucky Brown, Kaleta & Zozo Afrobeat, and Wake & Bake. The first re-issue 7" single on Tramp was "Nothin' But a Party" by The Blenders. It was originally recorded in North Carolina in 1971, the same year as Four Wheel Drive's "Fussin' and Cussin'". During the early 1970s, Walter Grady was busy producing several bands. He also ran his own small, short-lived labels such as 'Cobra,'' Grayslak,' and 'Linco,' the label on which "Fussin' and Cussin'" was released in August of 1971. Grady had some local success with bands such as The Electric Express, whose song, "It's the Real Thing," was a local hit and thus one of the easier records to find today. "Fussin' and Cussin'" is exactly the opposite; it is probably the rarest and most sought-after release on the Linco label.
